Every successful business is built on a team of talented and dedicated individuals. Amidst the day-to-day demands of work, the essence and true spirit of such an amazing team can sometimes be overlooked. At Edafio, we are proud to have a team of exceptional individuals who bring a diverse range of skills and experiences to the organization. Through our Associate Spotlight interviews, we have the privilege of sharing their remarkable stories and professional achievements. We hope that by illuminating the incredible uniqueness of our fellow associates, we can inspire others to pursue their passions and achieve their goals. Today, we are delighted to recognize Ryan Demay as our November Associate Spotlight. Let’s take this opportunity to get to know Ryan a little more!

Can you describe a mentor or someone who has had a significant influence on your professional development?

When I was starting out in my networking career at Walmart, I had a lot of mentors from the engineering team. One who stood out to me the most was Brent. In that kind of environment, big issues can get very chaotic and complicated very quickly. He was always very calm and collected and was good at getting people to work together to solve the problem instead of pointing fingers at each other. I like to take that same approach when I am engaged in problem-solving.

What motivates and inspires you in your work?

I love tackling complex issues and working as a team to deep dive into seemingly unexplainable scenarios. That feeling of “ahh, now it all makes sense” when you discover the root cause of an issue that’s been ongoing for a long time is a good feeling and a great learning experience. It’s also great to hear positive feedback from clients after their quality of life has been improved.

Are there any hobbies or special talents that you enjoy outside of work?

There are a lot of things I enjoy doing in my free time – traveling, floating, basketball, going to concerts, or playing video games. I’m also not half bad at playing drums. I’m still waiting on my invitation to the official Edafio band. Our first track will be titled “It was DNS all along.”

Can you share a favorite quote or mantra that resonates with you?

I like to live by the idea that everything happens for a reason. Try to make the best out of what you’ve got. This applies to my personal life and my work life.

How do you approach work-life balance and manage your time effectively?

There will always be times when extra work is required to meet client needs, but ensuring you schedule things ahead of time and do things right the first time can help alleviate those situations. I’ve also found that a lot of people have a hard time just saying “no” if they’re already extremely busy or overworked. Nobody knows how busy your schedule is as well as you do, and you’ll provide more consistent and professional results if you aren’t splitting your attention between multiple issues or projects.

If you could give one piece of advice to new hires at Edafio, what would it be?

Don’t be afraid to ask questions. If you don’t know how to solve a problem, take notes when someone does solve it if you’re still engaged. No matter how good the documentation is, you’ll always have a better time remembering how to solve something with your own notes that you can refer to. I’ve done this for a long time, and it’s saved my butt more than once.
